On February 16 we screened the rough cut of Red Dot on the Ocean to our first test audience in Lake Forest Illinois. It was a sophisticated and opinionated bunch who were not afraid to speak their mind. Naturally I was a little nervous.
I was overwhelmed with the positive response on the audience questionnaires. They loved it. Many people came up to me afterward and told me they wished they’d invited more friends or their children. I was thrilled to see so many people moved by the work. Many commented on how they enjoyed the fact that it was not simply a “sailing movie.” They were moved by Matt’s backstory and impressed and inspired by all the adversity he overcame in his youth.
I was at the Lake Forest screening and the cut shown was perfect to me. I am a High School Special Education teacher and can’t wait to show this to my students.
Red Dot on the Ocean is distributed by American Public Television and is available free for public school screenings through local Public TV stations. Often this includes a direct cable feed to your school. Contact your local PTV station for more information. If the station has not yet signed up to receive Red Dot, then request that it do so through APT. If you have any questions or need assistance, please let me know.
